Purpose

Mediterranean countries need to embark on greater sustainable development. These countries share common natural and cultural characteristics, common problems and peculiarities, but more importantly opportunities for sustainable growth. JCI Aleppo has put the idea of making a good networking and establishing common project between JCI Mediterranean as one of their priority in respect to the international area activity. Our project "Mediterranean, we are one!" precisely arose from the realization of the need to increase the deal flow of CSR and Sustainable Development Projects across the Mediterranean region, further focusing on consolidating the awareness of Mediterranean companies towards Sustainable Development and sharing expertise and experiences regarding Corporate Social entrepreneurship; that is all of statistic report and researches; networking and Mediterranean partnerships and training mechanisms required to support the project. The objectives of this project are many and its first priority is to make good networking between JCI chapters and businesses around the Mediterranean: 1- Educate Mediterranean businesses to the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility; 2- Raise the awareness of Mediterranean companies towards Sustainable Development; 3-Share expertise and experiences regarding Corporate Social entrepreneurship; 4- Create a chance for JCI members from the EU/Mediterranean countries to meet and discuss around sustainable development. The LONG TERM GOAL: Launching annual event to gather JCI Mediterranean members, discussing topics they have in common and more related to CSR and Sustainable Development, sharing experiences and to interacting with people from different cultures.

Overview

Mediterranean one project is an initiative launched by JCI -Junior Chamber International-Aleppo (Syria) and the IMEDD -Mediterranean Market Research and Sustainable Development Institute- (Monaco), in order to bring together the companies of the Mediterranean region around the issues of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. In this context, JCI Aleppo and IMEDD have worked together to conceive an international research on Corporate Social Responsibility, in the Mediterranean, in order to build a statistic report regarding the commitment of Mediterranean companies for sustainable development and CSR. This research is multi-languages, in English, French, Arabic and Italian. It is dedicated to companies, and it is opened to all Mediterranean countries. In order to present the project « Mediterranean, we are one ! », a web site has been created by the IMEDD, in collaboration with The of JCI Aleppo. This web site may be viewed at http://www.imedd-group.com/jcisyria-csrresearch.php. Accomplishments

We would strongly recommend our project to other JCI’s as it gives a global vision of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. Nevertheless, most of JCI activates in term of CSR still at the national level with low impact on the related companies. In fact we believe that JCI should be more involved in the researches and studies regarding CSR -not only CSR trainings- by bolstering knowledge of CSR, estimating and identifying areas for improvement. This project provides the opportunity to share the experience on the regional level between companies, furthermore, it helps JCI at the international area to create a good communications between chapters by providing a space to meet and discuss around sustainable development between various international members.
