Hasibe K??z??lta?? of Turkey selected as one of the 2013 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World

For her extraordinary work in career support for disabled people, Hasibe K??z??lta?? of Istanbul, Turkey was named a 2013 JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the category of humanitarian and/or voluntary leadership.

Starting her career in the corporate world at Sumitomo Corporation, Hasibe K??z??lta?? developed an expertise in the field of human resources and career development. With the desire to use her talents to help others, she researched development activities and career paths available to the disabled within her community. After much research, she found a great inequality of job opportunities and trainings for the disabled. False prejudices and negative attitudes existed in much of the corporate and public sectors concerning disabled persons employment. K??z??lta?? decided to take action to support career growth and development for this part of the population.

K??z??lta?? founded engelsizkariyer.com, Turkey’s first disabled human resources and career portal. Using innovative thinking and her background in employment services, she developed the website into a trusted database with thousands of qualified disabled applicants ready to enter the workforce. The site recruits disabled workers based on their education and potential to succeed in certain environments. K??z??lta?? also gives trainings and seminars to both disabled workers and companies looking to hire them, teaching positive approaches to communication and workplace interaction with handicap workers.

As a part of her entrepreneurial venture, K??z??lta?? advocates for disabled people to receive equal wages, equal working opportunities and an accepting, encouraging environment when interacting with other workers. She also conducts reintegration programs giving previously unemployed disabled people training on rejoining the workforce. This project has inspired other young active citizens to conduct similar trainings and awareness campaigns for disabled persons in the corporate and civil sectors of their society.
