Congress Delegates Invest in a Better, Brighter Future
On Thursday, November 7, JCI members, partners and guests learned more about how to invest their time and resources to expand their impact.
The final JCI Morning Show of the 2013 JCI World Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil started with delegates jumping, dancing and shouting out loud with excitement, even after a fun, late night of celebration at Global Village. Dr. Mazalan Kamis, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia shared his thoughts on innovation and how young people can invest in their future with creative, sustainable business ideas. The Morning Show raffle prizes were bigger and better as promised and two passionate winners received free 2014 JCI Area Conference registrations, along with one lucky winner who received a complimentary registration for the 2014 JCI World Congress in Leipzig, Germany. Following the final Morning Show, Dr. Kamis along with JCI Ambassador and UN Global Compact Senior Advisor Fred Dubee facilitated an inspiring JCI Active Citizen FrameWorkshop focused on providing solutions to the challenges caused by youth unemployment. Founding Partner of the Global Growth Institute and JCI Ambassador Wayne Clarke joined by Head of Cultural Transformation at BNP Paribas Securities Services UK Liz Raczi, hosted a best practices session focused on corporate social responsibility engagement and how JCI Local and National Organizations can create sustainable initiatives with local corporations to expand their impact.
In the afternoon, the Louvre was packed with Congress delegates, partners and friends for the highly anticipated General Assembly II, Elections. During the counting of the votes, JCI Secretary General Edson A. Kodama bid farewell after more than 20 years of service to JCI. Joined by his parents, wife and daughter, members cheered and expressed their emotions of admiration as he shared his dream for young active citizens to always aim for good. Incoming Secretary General Dennis Cunanan shared his gratitude and passion as he accepted his position and began his journey to guide JCI into a successful future. The 2014 JCI Board of Directors was chosen along with the election of 2014 JCI President Elect Shine Bhaskaran to be the next global leader of the organization. President Elect Bhaskaran accepted the position with pride and enthusiasm expressing his commitment to Unite to Impact JCI communities locally and globally. After an exciting day of investing in the future of JCI, delegates boarded buses to Costa Brava for a night of celebration hosted by JCI Japan.
