Purpose

1. To create opportunities for underprivileged children to connect with the outside world, learning interpersonal relationships and basic social etiquette. 2. To promote the message of "Smile For Peace", promoting peace with a smile and spreading love to the needy through welfare activities. 3. To inspire the community to be involved in community-building activities, whilst at the same time sharing the warmth of a smile.


Overview

JCI Tanjung Aru organized the "Make a Child Smile - Movie Day' in accordance with Junior International Chamber (JCI) Malaysia. This effort was done in partnership with Kiwanis International in seven areas nationwide, inviting more than 100 orphanage homes, about 3,500 children and underprivileged groups to watch a movie together.


Actions Taken

Arrange for a movie session at a local cinema

Visit and invite underprivileged groups and children to the event

Arrange sponsorship to cover various necessities eg: movie tickets, snacks, drinks, transportation

Organize meetings to discuss plan of action and distribution of workload

Recruit volunteers and friends to help out during the event day

Arrange courtesy visit to the local cinema to plan outline of the day's event flow

Publicize and create awareness for the event through word of mouth and social media

Invite members of the press to the event

Prepare props for publicity and photo-taking

Prepare slideshow and introductory video for broadcast during the event

Arrange seatings during the event to allow the public to be involved and mingle with the participants during the event

Recommendations

Brought 80 underprivileged children to an afternoon out together, whilst encouraging another 30 members of the public to be involved in such community-building activities
