Purpose

TOYP OBJECTIVES  To recognize ten young Sri Lankans between the ages of 18 and 40 who excel in their chosen field of career /profession  To unearth and create awareness amongst the public about the outstanding achievements of these young people, thereby enhancing their career opportunities.  To foster a new generation of future leaders by nurturing young people who exhibit outstanding potential for leadership.  To encourage and motivate young people to serve their own country effectively whilst paving the road to collective and individual achievement.


Overview

TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Persons) programme in Sri Lanka is a National Project organized by the Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka (JCISL) which was originally conceived and developed by Durwood Howes, President of the United States Junior Chamber in 1930, and this programme was officially adopted by the US Jaycees Since 1952, which will held annually to recognize the outstanding achievements of Ten young people between the ages 18 – 40 in ten pre selected categories mentioned below and reward them in a grand award ceremony. It will also highlight these achievements and contributions to serve as an example to the youth of the country. Furthermore the winners who receive a TOYP award will be recognized internationally through the Junior Chamber’s global network and presence in 115 countries. In Sri Lanka the TOYP was first introduced in 1980. It is now constitutionalised as the major Community, PR/Media project of Junior Chamber International Sri Lanka. TOYP winners locally are nominated to vie for the world TOYP programme, organized by Junior Chamber International each year. Sri Lanka’s ONLY world TOYP honouree is the world famous artist Mr Senaka Senanayake.
