2013 JCI Special Assistant to the JCI Zimbabwe National President Lloyd Ngwenya Passes Away

It is with great sadness that JCI announces the death of Special Assistant to the JCI Zimbabwe National President Ngwenya on Sunday, May 12, 2013.

A local JCI member of JCI City, Ngwenya died in Botswana in a tragic car accident. The driver has been released from the hospital, but one other passenger is recovering in Selebi Pikwe, Botswana. JCI peers and friends remember him for his loving personality and strong dedication to the JCI Mission and Values.

Ngwenya was a passionate leader and communicator. He deemed himself “an active citizen by calling, communicator/facilitator by giving, conversationist/blogger by passion, finance specialist by training and developmentalist by vision.” In 2010, he led his fellow JCI members to create local and global impact as the JCI City Local President. He then became National Public Relations Director for JCI Zimbabwe and shortly after took the position of JCI Zimbabwe Growth and Development Commissioner in 2012.

Growing up in a malaria-infested region of Zimbabwe, Ngwenya had first-hand experience with the fight against this deadly disease. Throughout his JCI career he always supported JCI Nothing But Nets and encouraged others to send nets and save lives. In 2012, at the first JCI City meeting of year, he raised US $600 for his birthday campaign with the support of his fellow members. Inspired by famous American poet Emily Dickinson’s poem, “I Shall Not Live in Vain” this act of service is just one of many that Ngwenya took part of as a young active citizen.

2013 JCI Zimbabwe National President Francis David M Mwale admired Ngwenya’s, “…sense of results orientation, attention to detail, sense of responsibility and never ending passion for JCI, our Vision, our Mission and a belief in our values.” These qualities earned Ngwenya the appointment to be his Special Assistant for 2013.

On behalf of JCI members worldwide, 2013 JCI President Chiara Milani and JCI Secretary General Edson A. Kodama would like to extend their deepest condolences to family and friends of Special Assistant to the JCI Zimbabwe National President Ngwenya on the news of his passing. He will be remembered with respect and admiration for his hard work and commitment to JCI.
