Everything Is Possible in Tallinn!

From June 14 through June 17, more than 2,000 delegates gathered in Tallinn, Estonia, for the 2006 JCI European Conference. To promote the Conference, JCI Estonia President Mart Repnau traveled around Europe with the slogan “Everything Is Possible in Tallinn.” Conference delegates report that Repnau was right — everything is possible in Tallinn!

“This is going to be one of our most memorable JCI experiences,” predicted Conference Chairman Yiannis Lagos. Again, as reported by delegates attending the event, it was indeed a superb experience!

The Opening Ceremony

At the City Concert Hall in Tallinn, the Opening Ceremony began with a skydiving show. The MCs — Anneli Ohvril, JCI Tallinn President and Conference Marketing Director, and JCI Executive Vice President Yiannis Lagos, the Conference Chairman — arrived on stage “flying” from above. After listening to stirring speeches by Chairman Lagos and European Conference Director Ardo Reinsalu, delegates recited the JCI Creed, led by Piret Sepp, the Best Member of JCI Estonia in 2005.

JCI Romania Excels in Training Young Entrepreneurs

Prezent, one of the largest and most influential newspapers in Romania, has recently published an excellent article regarding JCI and JCI Romania entitled “JCI, the ‘Greenhouse’ of Managers.” The article, based on an interview with Yiannis Lagos, JCI World Executive Vice President in charge of Area D (Europe), explains how young entrepreneurs in Romania benefit from JCI.

The article points out that young managers and entrepreneurs in Romania have a difficult time building a business because they are not taken seriously. The possible solution of attending a prestigious foreign business school is out of reach to most young people. However, they can join JCI, receive more practical training than they would in any school, establish networks, learn from other successful people in the country and abroad, and have a great time in the process.

One’s own pleasure in life is deeply linked to the happiness of others and, in the long term, endurance and an altruistic approach to life are both very important.
-- Writer Lafcadio Hearn, aka Koizumi Yakumo

On Saturday May 20, 2006, JCI Academy delegates representing 66 national organizations arrived in Matsue, Japan. They were impressed by the beauty of Matsue, also known as the “Water City,” surrounded by water and blessed with an abundance of natural scenery.

On May 20 and 21, staying with Japanese host families, Academy foreign delegates learned about Japanese culture while enjoying the warm friendship of Matsue residents. On May 22, they took part in the Matsue Festival.

Area C Conference: JCI Leading Corporate Social Responsibility

During the JCI Area C Conference chaired by Executive Vice President Shoji “Sean” Okuhara in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, on May 3-6, national presidents of the Americas discussed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at a special workshop. CSR was also the topic of the World Speaking Championship held at the Conference.

At the opening ceremony, government officials expressed the need for JCI to assume its role in promoting responsible entrepreneurship. “I am delighted that you have chosen ‘karukera’ (‘the island of nice waters’), for this international conference on the topic 'Entrepreneurs in action, the road of energies,'” said Paul Girot de Langlade, Prefect of Guadeloupe. “This initiative is likely to instill the entrepreneurial spirit and to promote responsibility.”

JCI Area C Conference in Pointe-à-Pitre: Opening Ceremony

JCI members’ international cooperation shines at JCI Conference of the Americas and the Caribbean (Area C).

The first JCI Area Conference of 2006 was held on May 3-6. On May 3, the colorful Opening Ceremony of the JCI Conference of the Americas and the Caribbean took place at the Centre des Arts et de la Culture in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, French Antilles. JCI Senators Maguy Bibrac and Fred Lebreton orchestrated the event as Masters of Ceremony. JCI Pointe-à-Pitre President Sylvain Vragar led in the recitation of the JCI Creed.

Joselita Gazon, Federal President of the French Department of the Americas, was the host of the Conference. It was the second time in the history of JCI that a local organization from Area D (Europe) hosted a JCI Conference for Area C (the Americas and the Caribbean). The first time was in 1996.

The hosting of a JCI Conference for Area C by an Area D local organization was possible and advantageous for everyone involved because the French Antilles, although a French overseas department, are located just 1500 km off the coasts of Florida. For members of Area C, it was a chance to enjoy an accessible and exotic location, while for members of Area D’s JCI Guyane and French Antilles, it was an opportunity to organize and attend a JCI Conference.

JCI Conference in Tallinn: Expanding Limits

Approximately 2,000 leaders from 50 countries and 400 local entrepreneurs are expected for the European JCI Conference in Tallinn, Estonia, June 14-17, 2006. Chaired by JCI Executive Vice President Yiannis Lagos of Greece, this event will offer 6 educational programs (including 35 leadership seminars), a Trade Show, a Business Program for establishing contacts, and much more!

Everything Is Possible

Seldom has a JCI Conference been organized by such an enthusiastic and ingenious group of young people as the JCI Conference in Europe this year. With Ardo Reinsalu as Conference Director and Eva Truuverk as Deputy Conference Director, organizing team members do not believe in limitations. To show delegates how Everything Is Possible, they are even offering an Everything Is Possible program.
