PRESIDENT'S CORNER
The Impact of One
As we enter the month of March, I can hardly believe how quickly my year as JCI President is passing. Throughout the past two months, we have made great progress in important programs like the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign. We have much yet to do in 2010, however, and we all must work hard to see the impact we desire to create this year.

As JCI Members, it is not enough for us to think or talk about the challenges facing our world. We must act in specific, concrete ways. The product of this action is impact at a local level. The goal of this impact is sustainable, global change.

This impact is possible because of the collective action of so many young active citizens. But this movement, this action, this impact begins with one person. Because of the power of individuals to effect change, this year I am asking each and every one of you to take an active role in impacting the world by joining our Impact of One initiative.

While we work to fulfill the JCI Mission, we need as many young active citizens working with us as possible in order to enhance the change we can create globally. This is why I’m asking every JCI Member to bring one new friend, family member or colleague to JCI this year.

I look at the wonderful projects and programs that our more than 200,000 members have created in the past year alone and cannot help but imagine the potential positive change JCI Members could bring to our world if we are each able to bring even one of our friends to work towards our Mission and Vision.

With the collective action of a critical mass of JCI Members across the world working together to build our network, our impact will increase. This is a change the world will feel.

Join us this year, as we harness the Impact of One.

Off to a Strong Start: Japan and Iceland
2010 JCI President Kwemain and JCI Secretary General Edson A. Kodama met with more than 10,000 delegates as well as former Japanese Prime Ministers Junichiro Koizumi and Taro Aso at the Kyoto Convention in Japan. JCI Japan has made a strong impact on the community landscape of Japan and has transformed businesspeople into great leaders and active citizens.

Next, President Kwemain headed to Iceland, where he met with dignitaries and JCI Members and established new relationships throughout Iceland. Notably, President Kwemain met with Ms. Ragnheiður Ríkharðsdóttir, Vice President of the Parliament and former JCI Member. Members of JCI Iceland are working with local universities to introduce the JCI Corporate Social Responsibility course. President Kwemain talked to Local Presidents and the National Board about how each individual is responsible for their community as well as JCI’s impact across the globe.

Planning for 2010 with the Board of Directors
At the 2010 January Board meeting in Chesterfield, Missouri, 2010 JCI President Roland Kwemain and the new Board of Directors discussed changes in direction for JCI. The Impact One campaign, championed by President Kwemain, is working to increase membership by asking each member to invite a friend to join JCI to increase the organization’s impact. The JCI Nothing But Nets Birthday Campaign was also discussed and all Board Members signed up to combat malaria.

President Kwemain Meets UN Leaders
2010 JCI President Roland Kwemain, accompanied by JCI Secretary General Edson Kodama and Executive Directors Earl Sawyer and Arrey Obenson, visited the United Nations in January to address mutual interests with UN leaders. Topics of discussion included the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign with the UN Foundation and the 2010 JCI Leadership Summit at the United Nations this summer. The visit signified the ongoing relationship between JCI and the UN, which has been in existence since 1954.

Inspiring Action at the JCI Academy
At the 2010 JCI Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, 2010 President Roland Kwemain took the opportunity to address Local Presidents from across the USA. Leadership sessions were led by President Kwemain and JCI Executive Director Arrey Obenson, and both took part in networking events with participants and provided ideas on how to create sustainable, positive change.
