A Call for Peace
“From within the walls of the soul of this organization, wherein the foundation of character and citizenship are laid, I hope a message will come forth in the sometime of tomorrow that will stir the people toward the establishment of a permanent and everlasting world peace,” declared JCI’s founder Henry Giessenbier.

At no time has the propagation of this vision been more relevant than in the past three weeks, when the world has watched horrific pictures of the escalating violence in the Middle East. Thousands of innocent civilians — children, women and men — have lost their lives or been rendered homeless and indigent.

Shaken by the continuous loss of life, destruction of property and untold hardship, we call for effective measures to be taken in order to achieve a durable and peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East. As an organization, we will always support and encourage the world to seek peaceful and diplomatic efforts to find peaceful settlement to all conflicts.

Members of JCI the world over have expressed their concern over the situation in Lebanon and most especially the attacks on innocent civilians. JCI calls on the parties of the conflict to refrain from attacks on civilians and expresses its sympathy to the families of those who have died in Lebanon and Israel, to the displaced people, and to all the victims in general.

While JCI members are greatly concerned about the prevailing situation, they remain optimistic that a long lasting and peaceful solution will be found. JCI calls on the international community to look for ways to ensure enduring peace in the Middle East.

Additionally, true to our mission, we will focus on building a permanent and everlasting world peace by preparing more and better leaders at all levels of our societies — positive and constructive leaders who understand and care for the needs of others, and who have real-life experience in leadership. We’ll train leaders who realize that our economies, our security, and our quality of life are linked to those of our neighbors; that none of us will thrive alone.
