JCI Asuncion Launches Preparations for 2007 JCI Conference of the Americas
During JCI World President Lars Hajslund’s visit to Paraguay, JCI Asunción launched preparations for the JCI Conference of the Americas that will take place in Asuncion next year from May 16 through May 19. The media -- including ABC Color, Ultima Hora, Radio Ñandutí, Telefuturo día a día and La Nación -- covered the JCI World President’s visit as well as the launching of activities to prepare for the 2007 JCI Conference.

Hajslund arrived in Asunción on July 19 and left early on July 22. It had been two years since the last time a JCI World President visited Asunción. This visit served not only to motivate and inform JCI members in Asunción and other locations in Paraguay, but also to launch activities in preparation for that important event, the 2007 JCI Conference.

Conference Expectations

Mirna Elizabeth Rulli, JCI Asuncion President, said the central theme of the 2007 JCI Conference in Asunción will be Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), under the slogan "Sé Mejor” (Be Better). “The theme and the slogan are part of a worldwide campaign to achieve positive changes in the communities served by JCI through the leadership of young people aged 18 to 40,” she informed the local media.

“At the JCI Conference of the Americas, delegates will find opportunities to establish networks and learn from renowned international speakers,” Hajslund pointed out. “They will also be able to take part in several contests and workshops, as well as in an international trade exhibition, and the JCI General Assembly of the Americas.”

JCI Paraguay President Enrique Bareiro Arce and JCI San Lorenzo President Raúl Acosta reported that more than 600 delegates from all over the world are expected to attend this event.

Training and More

In addition to expressing his complete support for the 2007 JCI Conference in Asunción, Hajslund offered training, reviewed activities conducted in Paraguay, and admired various projects that JCI members are carrying out throughout the country. “Asunción, San Lorenzo, and Capiatá are implementing several incredible projects,” he said.

Hajslund enjoyed meeting and talking with JCI members and potential members in Paraguay, and offering motivational presentations. His objective, he said, was to train new members, and develop their leadership, business and entrepreneurial skills, as well as to help them promote social responsibility and international brotherhood.

Accompanied by Enrique Bareiro, Mirna Rulli, and Raúl Acosta, Hajslund visited government officials, among them the Vice President of the Republic of Paraguay, Luis Castiglioni.

A Cocktail Party

An elegant cocktail party was given by JCI Asunción at the Excelsior Hotel to launch the 2007 JCI Conference of the Americas. Among the attendees were Hajslund, JCI national and local officers, current and potential members, sponsors, JCI Senators, government representatives, and representatives of Embassies of countries of the Americas.

Hajslund asked those gathered to support the 2007 JCI Conference. “The idea is to support JCI Asunción in all the activities that are being organized for this great event,” he explained. “We will demonstrate to the world that coming to Paraguay next year will be a great opportunity.”
