JCI Executive Committee Meets in Chesterfield
Led by 2006 JCI World President Lars Hajslund from Denmark, JCI Executive Committee members gathered at the JCI World Headquarters in Chesterfield, MO, June 29 and 30, for their midyear meeting (MYE). President Hajslund congratulated Executive Committee members for their work so far, particularly regarding the Conferences in May and June in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe; Takamatsu, Japan; Monastir, Tunisia; and Tallinn, Estonia.

“Thank you for your excellent work, which ensured the success of the Conferences,” said Hajslund in his opening remarks. “Now it’s time to report on what we have done so far and commit to continue endeavoring to reach our goals this year and prepare for Congress.”

MYE Participants

In addition to Hajslund, other members of the JCI Executive Committee meeting in Chesterfield were Immediate Past President Kevin Cullinane; Executive Vice Presidents Scott Greenlee, Yiannis Lagos, Shoji Okuhara, and Jokotade Odunuga; General Legal Counsel Graham Hanlon; Treasurer Lori Tomlin; and Secretary General Edson A. Kodama.

Also present at this meeting were Chief Executive Assistant to the President (CEATTP) Nicolás Caffaro, and Audit Committee Chairman John MacLeod. Other members of the Audit Committee in St. Louis were Development Council Chairman for the Americas Jun Takahashi and JCI USA President Lisa Parrish.

A large delegation from JCI Japan attended MYE and so did representatives of the JCI World Congress Organizing Committee (COC) from Seoul, Korea.

Reports and Discussions

Reports were received from the JCI President, Executive Vice-Presidents, and Vice Presidents. CEATTP Nicolás Caffaro submitted a report on the activities of JCI appointed officers. From the JCI Headquarters, reports on Operations, Membership Growth and Development, and Senate and Foundation were presented.

Attendees also listened to reports on past and future meetings. Regarding the JCI World Congress in Seoul, Korea, Congress Organizing Committee representatives reported on arrangements being made.

JCI Japan representatives reported on the 19th JCI Academy, the JCI Asia Pacific Conference (ASPAC), and OMOIYARI, a JCI Japan program to promote peace.

Treasurer Tomlin reported on the Finance Committee Meeting and gave the floor to John MacLeod, who reviewed the findings of the Audit Committee. Legal matters were discussed, including JCI Constitution Bylaw and Policy amendments proposed by General Legal Counsel Hanlon.

Executive Vice President Shoji Okuhara reported on JCI Operation Hope, while Executive Vice Presidents Scott Greenlee reported on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Insights

MYE attendees, including JCI World Headquarters Team members had the opportunity to attend a session of “Insights into Personal Effectiveness,” conducted by Joe Aves, an Insights Learning & Development facilitator. The objective was to help participants become more effective in the way they operate and communicate so they may increase their productivity, reduce costs, and improve services to members.

Conclusion

President Hajslund thanked participants for the productive midyear meeting. “You have done a fantastic job,” he said. “I’m sure your discussions, which have been intense, will really make a difference. I’m proud of you and your work.”
