JCI Achieves Objectives in Monastir
The General Assembly closing session of the JCI African and Middle Eastern Conference took place Friday, June 9, at the Palais de Science, in the presence of political and media personalities.

When asked if the objectives of the Conference had been achieved, Conference Chair Person Jokotade Odunuga indicated that she felt they had been reached, especially as far as providing excellent training to members, having a record number of countries represented, and promoting JCI’s noble mission. She was also pleased with the twinning agreements signed by local and national organizations.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Regarding the main recommendations arising from General Assembly discussions during the Conference, Jokotade Odunuga said that chief delegates had prepared five recommendations related to Entrepreneurs in Action and Corporate Social Responsibility, on which JCI members are focusing.

These recommendations will be presented at the JCI World Congress in Seoul, Korea, in November 2006. In Seoul, representatives from national organizations from all over the world will consider the recommendations from all the areas and select five for implementation worldwide.

Awards Ceremony

The Area A Awards Ceremony took place on Saturday, June 10, with JCI Vice President Aruna Pulton from Mauritius and Assistant to the Area A Executive Vice President Oladele Ogunlana from Nigeria performing as MCs. The Ceremony was conducted in English and French.

After an artistic presentation, the MCs invited Conference Chair Person Jokotade Odunuga and JCI President Lars Hajslund to go on stage to present the awards. Everyone recited the JCI Creed.

Oladele Ogunlana pointed out that 11 of the 29 national organizations in Area A had submitted a total 167 entries, which represented a large increase in comparison with previous years. Aruna Pulton thanked the members of the jury — 44 members from 11 countries — for their excellent work and many hours of judging.
