| The 2006 ASPAC Begins |
|
|
On May 23, 2006, delegates began arriving in Takamatsu, Japan, for the Asia-Pacific (Area B) Conference, also known as ASPAC, scheduled for May 25-28. Expectations were high based on excellent ASPAC reports received during the 2006 January Board Meeting. Led by Director Jin Oh, Conference Organizing Committee (COC) members have been working with extreme diligence to present one of the best JCI Conferences ever.
The 2006 ASPAC Chairman, Executive Vice President Scott Greenlee, reported in January that COC members, who were excelling in their roles, planned to visit all Asia-Pacific national organizations by the end of March to promote ASPAC. He added that the JCI Vice Presidents assigned to the area were also working hard to achieve attendance targets.
Pre-Conference Events
On May 24, delegates registered for JCI Prime attended the seminar at Sun-Port Takamatsu. A Mayor and Governor's Reception took place at Ritsurin Park, and an APDC meeting was conducted at the Conference Hall. JCI President Lars Hajslund held a Press Conference at Sun-Port Takamatsu. In the evening, the Conference Chairman's Reception took place at the ANA Hotel Clement Takamatsu.
Opening Ceremony
At the Kagawa Prefectural Hall, the Opening Ceremony took place on May 25. The setting was magnificent and the entertainment unforgettable. Government representatives present at the event included Governor Takeki Manabe and Takamatsu Mayor Shozo Masuda.
JCI officers assigned to Asia-Pacific as well as other JCI officers and past JCI officers were introduced during the ceremony. Foundation Chairman Sonny Yu, Past JCI Presidents Jennifer Yu (1988), Isfahani Sameen (1989), David Hide Oji (1995), and Yong Suk Choi (1999) were also introduced, as well as Chief Delegates representing their respective national organizations.
Kousaku Kimura, President of JCI Takamatsu, the hosting local organization, as well as Yoshitaka Ikeda, JCI Japan President, welcomed delegates to Takamatsu.
ASPAC Chairman Scott Greenlee expressed his gratitude to the Organizing Committee and all those involved in preparing the event. It is a great honor to be able to chair ASPAC as the Area B Executive Vice President, he said. However, my role in preparing and executing this event is dwarfed in comparison to the hard work so many of you in the audience have carried out to prepare this outstanding conference.
Chairman Greenlee encouraged delegates to participate. Go out of your way to meet people from other Local and National Organizations, he suggested. Discuss what works for their JCI organizations, and take those ideas and best practices back to your organization.
Furthermore, he pointed out that he and the COC were ready to ensure the success of the Conference. I assure you that with the help of our COC, we will do everything we can to make sure this Conference stands out as one of your great memories in JCI, he said.
