A 100-children choir, Tunisian pop stars and a visit from the Minister of Commerce and Handicraft of the Republic of Tunisia welcomed delegates at the Opening Ceremony for the 2009 JCI World Congress
in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Over 2,000 delegates traveled from countries across the globe to unite at this annual meeting. During the Opening Ceremony, the National Presidents and Chief Delegates from each of JCI’s 115 National Organizations were presented to the delegates as they modeled their national dress in a one-of-a-kind global fanfare.

La Chorale de JCI Sousse Jawahra, a choir of 100 children, sang the JCI Creed. Les Percussionistes de Sfax et les Saxophonistes as well as Tunisian Star Academy Lebanon winner Nader Guerat and Superstar winner Marwan Ali entertained the crowd.

2009 JCI President Jun Sup Shin welcomed delegates to Tunisia, one of JCI’s strongest National Organizations in its region, during the President’s Press Conference on Sunday, November 16.

“We couldn’t be more pleased to be here in lovely Hammamet,” President Shin said. “So during the next week, I invite you all to experience this gathering of the leading global network of young active citizens at our World Congress events.”

Throughout the following week, delegates will experience all-new programs, forums and events as well as annual JCI events like General Assembly, the election of officers, national parties and JCI Programs.

Look for more World Congress coverage in the coming week, including the long-awaited announcement of the winners of the JCI Awards program and of the 2010 Board of Directors after General Assembly on November 19.
