JCI University Newsletter

I hope that you have started the year well as trainers in JCI. Over the years, I have witnessed what a great difference trainers make in JCI, but I have also seen that we, as trainers, are not very good at taking advantage of the synergy we can create together. This newsletter will illustrate some of the changes and new activities we are conducting to transform the JCI Training Institute into the JCI University.

Why "University"?

Many people has asked why we want to change the name to JCI University. For years we have had the JCI Training Institute (TI) and it has served us well. The TI focused mainly on the development of trainers, and on training at area conferences and world congresses. The JCI leadership felt that, after 15 years of developing thousands of trainers, it was time to focus more on content. The JCI University is not meant to be a "real" university but rather a corporate university.

Purpose

The JCI University has two purposes:

1. To provide the training needed to implement the JCI plan of action, ensuring that JCI members have the right competencies and skills to conduct projects and training seminars, and to serve as JCI local, national or international leaders.

2. To provide the training necessary to live our mission by helping our members develop:

* Leadership skills
* Social responsibility
* Fellowship
* Entrepreneurship

Content

The following Academies will comprise the JCI University:

-- Leadership Academy
* Executive Leadership
* Political Leadership

-- Business Academy:
* Entrepreneurship
* Intrapreneurship

-- Learning Academy
* Personal Development
* Trainers Development

-- Non-profit Academy
* Non-Profit Management
* C4R: Continuity, Readiness, Recognition, Recruitment, and Retention

You will find a more detailed description of the content on the JCI University website. We are looking forward to your comments and suggestions.

New steps for trainers

One of the purposes of the JCI trainers' certification program is to ensure high-quality training. Another is to encourage trainers to develop material that fits into the JCI University Curriculum. For years we have only used trainers who have had an opportunity to train internationally, which has limited the number of developed programs in the JCI University Learning Library. Since the international training opportunities are limited, we have established two new levels of trainers:

-- National Graduate (NG)

The same criteria as for International Graduate (IG) will apply, except that training will be at the national level. Training materials in English must be developed.

-- National Training Fellow (NTF)

The same criteria as for International Training Fellow (ITF) will apply, except that training will be at the national level. Training materials in English must be developed.

The certification process for IG and ITF will not change. NGs and NTFs may become IGs and ITFs by training internationally.
