Yachting to Save Lives
This year the JCI Regatta is bigger and better, featuring 10 yachts setting sail for a good cause. All profits from this five-day sailing extravaganza will go directly to JCI Nothing But Nets, sending mosquito nets to protect children and their families from malaria. The 2012 JCI Regatta is proud to welcome representatives from the UN Foundation's Nothing But Nets campaign, who will join one of participating sailing teams. During their visit, they will provide perspective on the malaria situation in Africa and how JCI members' donations are critical to saving lives throughout the region.
In addition to an education on the importance of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, Regatta participants will be treated to superb views and an unparalleled experience. Starting their journey in the clear blue waters of Biograd, Croatia, the yachts will set sail on an adventure around the Komati Islands, which are the densest landmass in the Mediterranean Sea, consisting of 140 different islands. Each sailing day ends with a social outing comprised of dinner and drinks at a unique location on one of the many islands along the route.
An all-inclusive event, the registration fee includes a seat on a yacht, the “bubbles and bites” champagne welcome night and drinks and food during the dinners, parties and on board the boat. Each day, participants will eat breakfast and lunch on the boat and dock for dinner to mingle with all the sailors at the nearest port. The Regatta will conclude on the evening of September 4, with a closing ceremony, dinner and the passing of the Challenge Cup to the winning yacht team.
Nothing But Nets Facts
Every 60 seconds, a child in Africa dies from malaria. With a donation of just US $10, an insecticide-treated mosquito net is sent to Africa to protect a family from this deadly disease. JCI works closely with the UN Foundation to raise money for this campaign to purchase nets, distribute them to families in need, educate them on the proper use of the net and increase malaria awareness and prevention. All profits from the JCI Regatta will directly benefit JCI Nothing But Nets. In 2011, the JCI Regatta donated €11,000 and event organizers look forward to increasing this donation for the 2012 event.
