Join the Budapest-Bamako Rally: January 15, 2011
Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime as JCI joins the Budapest-Bamako Great African Run.
The Budapest-Bamako Great African Run begins in Budapest, Hungary, where drivers set off through Europe, cross the sea by boat, and continue their trek down through West Africa. The finish line is Bamako, Mali, the host city of the 2011 JCI Africa and Middle East Conference.
In 2011, JCI Nothing But Nets is the designated charity of the Budapest-Bamako Rally. Now you can join the adventure and help send nets to save lives along the way.
About the Budapest-Bamako Rally
From its humble roots, the Budapest-Bamako has grown into a major international sporting and cultural event. Hundreds of drivers and adventurers set out each winter for Africa bringing direct aid to the world's poorest communities.
In 2005 only 45 teams lined up at the start line. In 2010 over 500 people made the journey and sent 20 tons of aid to Mali and Mauritania. As the event constantly evolves, the spirit remains the same: Anyone, By anything, By any means.
Get Involved
JCI Members around the world can join the adventure in several ways, including driving, supporting a drive team, welcoming drivers or running awareness projects. - Be a Driver. Driving teams can enter the competitive category or touring category. As a driver, you’ll experience the adventure firsthand, and you’ll have the opportunity to reach out to communities in need with supplies and life-saving bed nets. Deadline to form a team: October 1, 2010. Learn more about the categories and the route.
- Support a Team. Cheer on your Area’s driving team and help them make an impact by donating to their team on the Nothing But Nets website.
- Welcome Drivers. Local Organization along the route in Europe and Africa can host welcome stations for drivers. Make these weary travelers feel at home with welcome signs, refreshments and inspiring words. Contact us to learn more about hosting a welcome station.
- Run a Project. You may not be able to make it to the Budapest-Bamako Rally, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss all the fun. Run a project in your community to raise awareness of the dangers of malaria and the effectiveness of bed nets, as well as to generate support for your Area’s team.
