Marketing and Communications

Effective, professional marketing and communications are essential for the success of your national and local organization. By consistently using high-quality marketing tools, you will help your organization in many ways:

1. Project a Professional Image
The quality and look of the materials that your organization produces reflects heavily on the organization itself. Professional-looking banners, fliers, and newsletters tell the viewer that your chapter is professionally run by professional people. At the same time, poorly designed communication materials can project the image that your organization is also poorly run.

2. Build the JCI Brand in your Community
By using your National or Local Organization’s JCI logo and following the JCI Corporate Identity guidelines on every communication, you will build a unified visual identity for your chapter. This helps the community identify your organization and creates a consistent perception of your organization. When the JCI logo is used properly in all JCI organizations around the world, a person can identify JCI in any city or country they where they travel. This unity builds JCI's brand both in your community and around the world.

3. Raise Awareness of your Organization
Your community can only know about your organization and the successful projects you run if you tell them. By building a brand and maintaining Public Relations to inform the community about your organization and it’s projects, you will raise awareness of JCI. Regular press releases, an updated website and building a relationship with the press and media will all contribute to community awareness of JCI.

4. Communicate Effectively with Members and the Public
When a piece of communication, such as a newsletter or sign is well designed and produced, it is able to communicate information more effectively. Viewers determine immediately if a piece of communication is for them and worth their time. Clear writing and consistent visual image makes the communication more attractive to the viewer and easier to understand.

5. Attract New Members and Sponsors
By creating a consistent identity and presence in the community, more people will learn about JCI. When they know about JCI, they will be able to decide if they are interested in participating in the organization. Potential sponsors are also more likely to want to be associated with an organization that has a strong, positive image in the community.

Using the Downloadable Marketing Materials

For all of the items, you will find files for a professional printer or designer. These files require professional design software to open and edit. You will also find an image of the template that can be opened on any computer in order for you to view the template.

.eps
An EPS file is a vector art format. Vector art can be enlarged or reduced to any size without loosing image quality. It can only be opened and edited by using graphic arts software that handles vector art, such as Illustrator, Freehand or Corel. The text will only be displayed properly if the computer also has the fonts that are used in the document installed. Eps files can be linked to quark files. EPS files can be opened in Adobe Photoshop, but then it will be rasterized and will not be able to be enlarged without loosing image quality.

.jpg
A .jpg is a raster graphic format which stores a group of pixels. This file format is widely used to display photographic images and can be viewed on almost any computer, but text in the file is not editable. JPG files can be opened with almost any image viewing software. JPG files can be placed in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Publish files. As with any raster graphic file, the image cannot be enlarged without loosing image quality.

.pdf
PDF files can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Professional or Adobe Reader that is downloadable for free from www.adobe.com. The text of a .pdf file is usually not editable. Like a raster file, a .pdf image cannot be enlarged significantly without loosing image quality. The pdfs available for download are meant to be samples that can be used as a reference or printed directly without editing.

.ppt
This file format can be opened by Microsoft Powerpoint, which is included in Microsoft Office. The marketing materials available in this format are intended to allow you to edit and print them using a home or office computer and printer without having to use a professional printer. There will always be additional files for a professional printer to use if desired.

.psd
This is the extension of an Adobe Photoshop native file. In order to view and edit this file properly, you will need the fonts used in the document installed in the computer and you will need Adobe Photoshop.

.qxd
The file extension .qxd is used by the layout program Quark. qxd files can only be opened with the program Quark. If you are using Adobe InDesign, it is possible to convert a Quark file to an InDesign file with a conversion program made for this specific purpose which can be purchased on the internet. With the qxd file, you will find a folder called “pictures” and a folder called "fonts.” In a quark file, the images are linked to the document, they are not contained in the document. Therefore, the pictures folder must always stay with the qxd document in order to view and print the file correctly. If you wish to add or change a picture, the new picture must be in eps or tif format and it must be in the “pictures” folder to be linked optimally to the quark file. The fonts in the font folder can be installed into a Mac computer to view and print the text correctly.
When sending the files to a printer, all the linked pictures and all the fonts used in the document must be collected and sent with the Quark file for print.

.svg
An .svg file is a scalable vector graphic. Vector art can be enlarged or reduced to any size without loosing image quality. It can only be opened and edited by using graphic arts software that handles vector art, such as Illustrator, Freehand or Corel. Unlike EPS files, these can not be opened or edited in Adobe Photoshop. The text will only be displayed properly if the computer also has the fonts that are used in the document installed.

.tif
This is a raster image file format similar to .jpg files, but optimal for printing and for linking into quark files. You will most likely find them in the "pictures" folder associated with a Quark file. As with any raster graphic file, the image cannot be enlarged without loosing image quality.

.zip
A .zip file is a compression file used in order to reduce the download time and protect the files inside. Once you download it, double click on it to uncompress the file and access the files inside.
